I just got my new Fisher F2. It didn't come with headphones. Do I need to go with Fisher phones or will any phones fit?

I and many others here use the cheap ones from the dollar store are Wal mart. I just picked up a back up set from big lots for 5 bucks made by Sentry. Just make sure they have a 4 ft or longer cord and you will be fine.

Thank you for the answer. I guess my question was more about the plug. Are they all the same size and style? The plug in my fisher looks like it has threads on it.

That might be a waterproof or moisture proof connector. Most detectors have either a 1/8" or 1/4" plug for headphones unless, like two of mine, they are for diving. Then they need to be waterproof down to 60 meters or so and require gaskets and tight seals.

According to the manual, which you can get here

you can use a standard headphone with the right size plug. See the back cover of the manual for a list of accessories.

Radio Shack and most other electronic stores carry adapters that will allow you to use 1/8" headsets with detectors, most of which seem to still use 1/4"    I haven't experienced any problems using the adaptor, but I usually keep a couple of spares with me in case I lose one or something does go wrong.

The F2 uses a standard 1/4"plug.   The best headphones are the ones with seperate volume controls on each ear and a coiled cord.  The coiled cord allows you to sit your detector down and move around a little without pulling your phones off.  These big headphones block outside noise so I use only one ear and keep the other side off my ear so I can be aware of what is going on  around me.  I turn the volume off on the side I'm not using.  HEADPHONES ABSOBUCCINLUTELY SAVE ON BATTERIES.

I've been looking at getting some more headphones too. I have the Koss headphones with my Minelab, but I'm thinking I might try to find a decent pair of Gray Ghosts or something from DetectorPro. I dunno, I just need another pair for a back up and buddies.

I use a pair of vintage Koss cans (early 70s i think), they have the 1/4" jack and a coiled cable that extends to 9 feet. They work perfectly for the job, but sometimes i feel guilty for getting them all mudded up  No no!
