Go Up Go Down

I have been practicing with freshly buried coins and metals at different depths in my yard so that i could be well acquainted with my detector. i have read in here were i should expect different results from items that have been in the ground for some time. my question is how much of a difference? and will that difference also be affected by the years that it was buried?
Thanks a bunch
Conner

That all depends on what metals the coins of made of,how long it's been buried, the position of coin and the depth. Also ground minerals and if the coin is mixed in with scrap.
It would seem that new buried coins verses coins that has been buried for some time makes some what of a difference.Older buried coin seem to be easier to detect, some call it a halo effect.
I've been there before with the same questions and over time this is what I came up with.I hope this helps you out some.

I agree with Shootin4coal.  My experience of over 38 years of detecting supports what he says and has been the same.  Detecting

yep, thats right. Too many variables to answer that question much better than that. The best way to get to know what your detector is telling you is to dig everything. If you want to save some digging, discriminate nails and foil, if all your looking for is coins. On your machine, simply turn it on and hit the far right button twice and that discriminates iron and foil. Something for you to see is take different coins and lay them on the ground, your detector wont do well with them that close. That way you understand what that is in the field with a penny buried 1/2 inch making your detector go mad lol. Also, if you dont have a pinpointer, GET ONE! it will save you lots of headaches.

Iron sure makes it's mark after some time in the ground. You can get a Fine Signal do the dig and find nothing but a red stain in the dirt.

Copper, Brass and Zinc all migrate Ions into the soil after a spell.

Silver will poduce some Ions but not as much.

Gold Does Nothing.    Oh, That's why gold is GOLD!

I've done that plenty of times!  Sure we all have if we've been detecting any time at all!

Yup I'm sure everyone will agree with Homey. Iron deposits left behind long after the object deteriorated can fool even the old timers.
You get a good signal, you X it and still a solid signal  Great ya start digging and thinking this target is going to be.............   OH you gotta be kidding me  No no! I just dug 8 inches for rust.  Angry  Thumbs Down

Remember,rust never sleeps   Cheesy
