Howdy, on some occasions I have only received a beep in one direction of my swing (e.g., Left to right, but not right to left)?  What could cause this?

Also, at other times, I get a beep from right to left and left to right but not when I go up to down, and down to up (to try and pinpoint a spot).  Any idea as to what could cause this as well?

I am using a Tesoro Silver Umax.

 Thanks folks.  Appreciate it.

                                Ron

I'll throw in my 2 cents ever though I'm pretty new to this.  I started by digging almost every time I got a beep and it seems like the non repeatable beeps, or the ones that read different from different directions are not round, and with the exception of zinc pennys they are trash.  A coin, which is generally what I hunt, is a pretty even sound from all directions and reads pretty consistent.  I have not found any coins that weren't laying flat, but hear theses can read different at different swing directions.  I have found a bunch of pennys and the zinc ones do not sound off as good as other coins, but do sound different than trash.  I was at a sandlot last week and I found about thirty pennys in a 10' x 10' area.  This wasn't very profitable Smiley but gave me a chance to learn what a penny sounds like, I can pretty much tell if I'm going to be digging a penny now.  Now if I could only I could find a spot that a little kid had a roll of silver coins to play with.

With the Compadre when I get a single way signal, I turn 90? and re-sweep.

The signal now disappear (trash) or read loud and clear (target).

Thanks for the advice folks, I appreciate.  Really a strange thing... I never thought I'd find coins on edge, but found 2 the other night.  Unreal.  Great hobby, enjoying it.  Have found coin and silver... gold next?   Grin
