Well??? I personally find it hard to believe your coil is picking your hip up at that distance. However I guess its possible. Hopefully someone more experienced will come along and shed some lite on the matter for you? I know my father-in-law gets tagged ever time he has to go though the detectors at the airport but thats like holding the coil right next to your hip. He has to carry paperwork on the hip replacement ever where he go's but they still pat him down ever single  time. Now you have me really wondering. I will ask my father-in-law to swing my detector and see what becomes of it?   Hes a short man so if its going to beep...its going to beep on him.

Thanks, Cache.  I know how your father in law feels:  I*always* leave early when I fly so that TSA can have time to grope me thoroughly.... Round About

if you metal detect with your work boots on and your work boots are steel toe you need to keep the detector as far away from your feet as possible or you will wind up tilling yer whole yard over, roflmao.

al f
Don't think your alone my friend.A bud of mine some time ago brought his detector to the job site so on lunch break he could search around an old house due to be leveled.
After about 10 minutes he realizes that his work boots with steel re enforced metatarsus was the cause of all the ghost targets that his machine was picking up. Detecting
He did extend the lower rod and was sure to keep the coil away from his feet and he did find a few clad coins and an old pocket watch along with a lot of roofing nails.
I have to thank you for bringing up some fond memories of my past...  Great
Hey look at this as a lesson learned, and I'll bet ya that will never happen to you again....  Wink

A note to all members " NEVER go detecting with steel strapped to you feet"    Crazy
