You can click on one of the Kellyco links on this site and look at ALL MDs in that price range which may help you to decide if it's "worth it" or not.  Fisher has been around a long, long time and this model certainly has alot of bells and whistles.  If you are asking is it worth it to spend all that money, any metal detector will find metal.  My $100 detector finds metal and so does my $500 detector.  Neither one of them can tell a pull tab from a gold ring, and both of them hit on a coke can like it was something important.  The F5 looks like a fun interesting machine, especially the "confidence" meter.  Just reading the owner manual I can tell you I would be in a long learning curve with this one.  If your philosophy is to "dig everything" you could spend less money and still find all the metal.  If you are an experienced detectorist your learning curve on this would be less.  I own a Fisher and I made a pocket reference guide for numeric values cause mine doesn't say "you found a quarter!"  it says "89".  So in the end I'd say if you got 500 bucks, and this one makes you happy, its worth it.

I saw where you had posted and not got a reply so I typed away.  Then I went and saw your other posts and realized you were an experienced detectorist, with your F5 already on its way.  Let us know how well it does.  If you are still in the San Antonio area, lets hook up and do some swinging.  I'll be there in March and I've already been looking around for some sites to hunt.

I read some SA news that the parks dept. had banned metal detecting until further notice.  I don't know if they lifted the ban or not.  Hows the F5?

I just want to add to this thread the F5 seems like it has a learning curve when you first pick it up, but if you do some research on all the forums you'll learn purty quick the basics how to set this machine up, that's what I did before I bought mine.
At first I was convinced the Ace 250 was the one that was gonna fit me best, but the more I read the more I liked the F5. I am still learning something new every time I go out and this makes hunting more fun and a challenge for me.
The F5 was the right choice for me!

Thought I would chime in as well on this discussion. I absolutely love the F5 for its ease of ground balance and the easy to use at your finger tip controls. I have found very deep targets and with the confidence meter it is a no brainier. Just got back from a copper hunt in the U.P. of Michigan and was amazed at what was on my four wheeler at the end of a 2 day hunt. We had special permission for two days to hunt this land and man was the F5 great for rough copper finds. I love it you made the right choice. Jeremy in Wisconsin.
