Go Up Go Down

Hi,
I am a newbee. I have acquired the above machine and was wondering if there is a short cut way to setting up as the manual is hard to decipher.

Not hard!

VLF mode.

Place the Auto/Manual tune switch in Manual

Edit:  I omitted the first step.

Insure the TR/Discim control is fully Counter Clockwise.

With the coil well above the ground, turn the unit on.

Same control, crank the Sensitivity to the mid range.

Hold the Master control switch in the left position. (Button on Handle)

Rotate the Null control as so you have a faint threshold tone.   You want the Positive side.  Meter will go right when metal is detected.  This only needs to be done the first time you tune your detector unless it gets bumped around.

Release the Master Switch.   Tone should remain as set.

While the coil is still away from ground, use the handle switch to go to VLF.

Now you need to Ground Balance.

Lower the coil to the ground.  If the Threshold tone goes up, raise coil and turn GB control Counter clock wise 1/4 turn.

If it goes down, do same but turn GB control clockwise 1/4 turn.

Repeat this until there is little or no change in tone when 2" from the ground.

Now your Ground Balanced.

VLF , All Metal mode.

Insure your Discrim is in the Lowest setting.

Lesson II, TR set up in the morning.

My eyes are falling out.  LOL!

Lesson II   TR Mode

To make things simple, Set the detector up as described in the Lesson I for VLF.

To operate in the TR Mode is now simple.

Unlike tuning the VLF, you want to hold the coil 2-4 inches over the Ground.

While it's there, Depress the Master Control switch to the Right for 1 second.

You are now running in TR mode.

Using the TR/Discrimination Control you can dial out items unwanted.  Discrimination on this machines is progressive.

To return to VLF all metal , all you need to do is raise the coil up off the ground and Hold the Master control switch to the Left for one second.

Want to Go back to TR?    Coil back down and Master control switch Right 1 second.  Ha!

Notes to Know.

The Auto/Manual Tune switch in auto DOES NOT auto tune/Ground Balance but just maintains the threshold tone at the set level.

Some more good stuff to know!

REVERSE DISCRIMINATION. Put your switch in the VLF mode. Since this is a no-motion machine, begin slow sweeps as you will miss targets if you sweep too fast. Upon detecting a metal object you must pinpoint as closely as possible which is fairly easy seeming as it is a no-motion detector. Once you have the object pinpointed and your metal detector is not moving, flip your mode switch to the TR discrimanant mode. Have your discrimination set to reject nails or other rusted objects. If your machine blares off or sounds off when you move off the target, that implies you target has been rejected. On the otherhand if your machine goes silent that implies that your target has been accepted.

Nice tutorial there Homefire.  When in an area with not much junk he can also run the ground balance just a wee bit hot and hear the weak ones a bit better.  By hot I mean run the ground balance so it increases just a little bit (very LITTLE bit) when the loop is lowered to the ground.
