Hi guys. Newbie here, have just been given permission to detect on a friends farmland. There are some open spaces, some thick brush, some old trees and old foundations. Also there is a lake that abuts the property for about a hundred yards. Really excited here, would love to hear any and all suggestions going into my first farmland property hunt. Thanks. Smiley Oh yeah, forgot to ask. I'm using a Garrett ACE 250 with the stock coil. Must I keep it completely out of the water or can I submerge it at all? Idiot

You should be safe submerging the coil and part of the shaft but do your detecting on dry land for a while first. Unless you have a developed beach front you probably won't find much in the lake except old fishing lures, hooks and weights.

Start around the old trees, near the front and back doors.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
