Gold detecting in Africa-Goldbug 2 question

Hi
I have never owned or used a detector and plan on getting a Goldbug 2 after doing some research. I intend to use it for finding nuggets in Africa. However some people say the Minelab gpx series is superior. The goldbug 2 costs around British £800 and the minelab ones are around £3000. My quesrion is the Goldbug 2 give a decent enough performance? I can't afford the Minelab products just now
Some of the gold in southern Africa is literally just below the surface and can be dug using basic tools. Its just knowing where to dig. Would a Goldbug be suitable for this. I am not doing this as my main job but as an aspiring miner and to learn
Or are there better alternatives to the Goldbug which are in that price range?

The Fisher GOLDBUG II is a formidable Gold Detector. Running at 71Khz it will find the Bug Poop size gold the Minelab GPX would never see. Minelab has the New Gold Monster 1000 out now that runs at 50Khz like the Whites GMT 48Khz.
The Gold Bug, Whites GMT and the Gold Monster are all about in the same price range.

Thanks for your input. So why is the gpx series very expensive? In what way is it better than a goldbug
Out of the ones you mention which one do you personally recommend?

The GPX is a PI machine. Capable of way deeper targets then the VLF machines running these high frequencies. Minelab has always been proud of there product and it reflects in their prices ! ::)

you can buy a Used ML detector in very good working order and very capable finding gold at depth for less than 800 pounds
from eBay in Australia.
i am not sure if the sellers will be willing shipping to where you are,but you can ask them.

In your opinion how deep does a Goldbug 2 go when finding nuggets?

Hello. The Gold Bug 2 is not a depth demon, but in low to medium mineralized ground it will pick up the smallest specks a detector can find.
If you are prospecting for small nuggets on the bedrock, GB2 with 6 1/5 coil is perfect. For bigger ans deeper nuggets in large areas, you should
go for a pulse induction. Never tried the whites GMT that should be a little deeper on big targets and meaby more effective in mineralized ground thanks
to the DD coil. I Don't know anything about new gold detectors that could be very fine. (Minelab gold monster, makro gold racer, deus hf ...)
