In my opinion it does not.

Rusty iron can have a double beep.
It can also sound scratchy.

But so does fresh iron.

For instance, a 8" long 1" dia pipe
will have a double beep if you swing
the coil long ways along tha pipe.

Turn tha pipe 90 degrees, and you
get a get a single beep.

A coin, as well as other objects, will
give a double beep if it is very close
to the coil when the coil passes over
it.

Two objects can cause a double beep.

But, in my opinion, so called haloes
do not caues double beeps.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

Actually, the Halo Effect does not exist.  If that was the case, the surrounding soil would contain the metal surface that has seeped into the surrounding ground over time.  Also, you would be able to detect the so-called Halo Effects ring for decades to come, that has 'leaked into the surrounding ground'.  It is one of the biggest scams in Metal Detecting.  It is not true.

Thanks for clarifying what "Halo" means. I like to walk mines and see what I can find as a rock collector and I've been curious about metal detecting in some of the places where I go....figure the miners lost stuff too.

I do not buy into most hype about halos.
Old rusty objects have a different response
than newer, unrusty objects that have not
been in the ground long.

The old rusty iron can make discriminator TIDs
go up to silver and copper, and drop back to
iron and back and forth.

The above can be the bases for a lot of halo
speculation.

Ground can be affected dramatically by iron
content. People just do not realize that it is
an even bigger issue than pull tabs and bottle
caps.

Sorry to get off on a tangent, Cheesy

But, I think that iron can cause all kinds of
responses. Iron is the issue,

not halo.

I think halo is something to speculate, but not
something to worry about while hunting.

Dig the target, you will hold the answer in your
hand.

No one can disagre with that,

Tabdog
