The good thing is I have found something every time I have turned it on.  Nails, bolts, gussets, a couple matchbox cars, wrenches, and one penny!

I am getting addicted to this stuff.  I think when I find my first silver or gold it will be too late Ethel!

Buckskin,

The posters before me have pretty much said it all!  Use what detector you have, have fun with it, and move up to a better machine when you can.

I started out with a really cheap machine and had to dig every signal.  I found tons of junk, but I also found some good stuff, too, even though I had to adjust the detector about every 25 feet or so!  I had a lot of fun with it.  I still have that old original machine hanging out somewhere in my garage!  LOL!  Funny

Enjoy the forums and good luck with your detecting.  Detecting  Welcome

I too have just stated in the hobby and spent 3 1/2 hours at the beach the other morning. I found about 300 pull tabs and bottle caps 15 rusty nails some other metal trash and 50 cents in cash, no gols or silver. I can't wait to go back and try again Cheesy

HF 9 function

I have the HF 9 function metal detector and have taken it out twice. As my name explains, I am an old woman who digs. I did not want to invest a lot until I decided if I liked the hobby. So far I have only looked in my backyard. I have found some nails and screws, a copper cable, a battery terminal but no coin yet. Today I found a large bullet marked U.M.C. 45 GOVT.  I have done some research and I think it is from the late 1800's to early 1900's.  It looks to be a copper casing with a lead top.  anyone have any info?

I suggest you go to the "New user introduction " and introduce yourself if you have'nt already and there you will be welcomed and may just find your answer. Also you can post your discover in the "Todays finds" where it will be seen by many. The post you  shared on is very old....By the way....   Hello  &   Welcome  Welcome to Thunting from Kansas...
