Go Up Go Down

Hello all:  I am on Vancouver Island, BC.  My adult son who lives with me has developmental handicaps and would love to begin 'treasure hunting' with a metal detector.
Does anyone have advice for me on which might be a good one for him to use?  He has a little trouble with dexterity, but otherwise can usually handle most devices OK.
Is there one that would be pretty good but not too difficult to learn about?  I don't want to buy him the most expensive one, but still a decent one for finding goodies.
Would I be wise to get one with underwater capabilities?  We're near the ocean.  I'm pretty sure that one for underwater use might be quite a lot more money.
I sure appreciate any ideas and information you could give us.  When we begin a search for something new, I'm at the mercy of salespeople unless I get some tips from those folks with good experience.
I thank you so much for any help you can give me.
Diane

Hey Diane welcome.

I suggest you you look at the Tesoro Silver Max very easy detector to use with only 2 knobs and no led read out Plus the lifetime warranty is always a good thing.

You are both so great for getting back to me so quickly and with advice I can trust.
I will look up the Tesoro Siver Max that you have suggested.  The only makes that I have found to be sold on Vancouver Island are the White and Garrett.
Do you have any thoughts on how each of these three makes would compare?
If the Tesoro is the best for the money in your opinion, I can have one shipped to me.
We can afford about $300. for the device and hope that Mark will be able to have some success finding 'treasures' on the beaches here.  He won't really care what the finds will be, he'll just be excited to be able to dig something up  ;>)

Take care,  Diane

If I bought only one detector it would be the whites MXT Pro and if you checkout some of the threads on here you will learn how to use it as well as the best of them,
also I have writen step by step instruction on how and why to use it, but still checkout the Tesoro's and have fun doing it ok,

good luck doing it,

My thanks again for your advice.  We're going down Island in a couple of weeks and will look at the Whites MXT Pro while there.

Hello from Connecticut. The Tessoro silver max would be a good machine and fit you budget.... and would find things! The MXT is a very good machine, however, the extra knobs, and setup configurations may be a challenge for a new user.

The Tesoro Compadre is simpler to use. It's a real turn-on-and-go machine. Fewer knobs to fiddle with and it's a real screamer when it come to finding metal. I've taught a 3 year old to use it in 5 minutes and she was begging daddy for one of her own when she had to go home.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

You've all given me great info for my quest for my son.  I appreciate your help and I'm so excited to be able to investigate these makes and models you've suggested.  I do a lot of research for my purchases and now I'll have some basics to begin with.
You're all so awsome, helping myself and each other - nice to meet good folks in this world.
