I am new to treasure hunting and I have found several locations that I want to search. I would like to know if someone has a document that they present to landowners to maybe get permission to search on the property?

There is a permission letter/card in the download section I beleive. If not I am sure that someone has it. I have seen it several times but have never needed it myself. Usually just asking and explaining what you want is enough to get you permission. Always a goog idea to offer to share what you find.

I looked but I didn't find it. I do think it would be a good idea to share. I have read that when you go on someones property you are representing the hobby and should use care. I was trying too find how others handle this. I really appreciate yours and other input. Thanks again.

I really appreciate the help! I will use that form only if they want to require something from me. I am glad that I came across this site. This kind of help is making me feel welcome! I hope to be able to have something helpful to add as I get the experience.

Hello, This is the form that I use to break the ice with property owners.I've been using it for 3 years now and have had good results with it.
Hope this will give you a general idea of what you'll need for a permission form.
Good luck.

Greetings property owner

I “My name” ask only of your permission for the opportunity to perform a metal detecting search and possible recovery upon a designated area of your property. I mostly detect for obscured smaller size relics from the 19th and early 20th century era. Common desirable items found while seeking the past upon various area properties included buckles, buttons, coins, keys, silverware, tokens, tools just to list a few.
Before I attempted metal detecting on other properties, I studied and adopted the practice of environment friendly recovery techniques.  Properly done this technique will leave behind very little evidence of search holes, ground disturbance or dead turf spots.
To limit ground disturbance on lawn or maintained areas I will attempt to make a recovery only if I receive a loud, clear and repeatable signal indicating a possible desirable target.

Once permitted to any property for the purpose of metal detecting, I pledge to adhere to this code of metal detecting ethics.
•   I will always show respect and courtesy towards the property owner and any persons within the property and surrounding areas
•   I will always respect the wishes and or concerns of the property owner
•   I will always conduct my physical actions and demeanor in a professional manner
•   I will always abide by all laws, ordinances or regulations that may govern the property
•   I will always appreciate and protect the heritage of natural resources and wildlife
•   I will always fill in all search holes I make, regardless how remote the location
•   I will always leave all gates and other accesses to property as found
•   I will always report any finds that is thought to be of value to the property owner
•   I will never destroy or alter any buildings or structures within or around the property
•   I will never dig in a way that will damage or cause damage to the property
•   I will never litter, always pack out what I take in and remove all scrap that I recover
•   I will never hold a property owner liable for any unfortunate incident, personal injury or mishap that I may encounter while permitted to any property

Regardless of your decision, or if you require additional time, please accept this form and my card for your future reference. If you ever have any questions, concerns or comments please feel free to contact me at your convenience.

I sincerely thank you for your time and consideration
