Tough question.
In theory, the smaller the finds you're looking after, the smaller the coil you will have to use. It also depends on where you are going to hunt.
At a certain point, larger coils are useless and sometimes get less depth on some targets than a 10" coil would give.
Small coils (4" or 6") have also great qualities for hunting in high trash areas.
