Simply put...anywhere and everwhere you can WITH permission!!!! I'm a coin shooter. Best place for me is the baseball diamonds. I hunt where the spectators park there cars in the grassy area's. Ever male driver pulls his keys out of his pocket and along comes the change!  Of course near the concession stand is always good as well.....

Thanks, great idea, there is a baseball diamond just down the street I'm gonna hit up. now if it would just warm up 30 degrees and the snow would melt that would be great lol.  I'd really like to find some old house sites that are overgrown but haven't had any luck finding any. Been trying to research and find old maps and stuff but can't find any. Undecided

First, a quick call to the local tax assessor's office in your home town will help get you started. Ask if the strip of dirt between the sidewalk and the street is considered the property of the city or the landowner. Do NOT tell anyone why you as asking, just ask. Tell them you're curious. In most places that strip of land is the property of the city and you can hunt there legally.

Then, you go out your front door, turn right on Monday, left on Tuesday, (etc) and hunt that strip of land. If anyone gives you a hard time, apologize and move on but try to show them the sharp, pointy things you have in your pouch and explain that you remove all dangerous objects. Chances are, they'll say you should continue. If they say go away, just leave.

You'll find that by using this method you have hundreds of miles of land to detect even in the smallest town.

Joggers lose coins, jewelry and keys. Walkers do the same. Kids lose all kinds of things including metal cars and toys. You'll also find all manner of junk that you can offer as an indication of what you find. Never, ever show them your valuable coins or any jewelry. You'd be surprised how fast that even the most honest person "remembers" they lost that ring you show them.

Along the way, you will meet an occasional person who asks you to help find a lost item for real. If you can help, do so. If they offer you a reward, accept it gracefully if you succeed. Even if you don't, thank them for the chance to help and ask them if you can search the rest of the yard in case it was not where they thought it might be.

Always repair your holes. Have fun.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Thanks i'm gonna have to make some calls,  I would never even think about not repairing my holes even if I were in the woods.  I don't think i'd run into and trouble assuming I'm allowed to hunt between street and sidewalk, people out here are pretty easy going. Thanks again, any advise on finding old property without houses on them anymore, like old foundations ect...
