Go Up Go Down

Hi!
My husband and I are going to be purchasing a metal detector soon. We live in Columbus, GA and while he has no questions yet, my head is spinning with many. The legalities, locations etc. Of course my backyard will be the first place I look, however I doubt I will have much luck there.
We are looking at purchasing a Garrett Ace 350. Any comments or suggestions on this detector would be great as well as advice on how to go about getting permits/licenses to detect locally. What should we look out for as far as laws are concerned? We have never been metal detecting before so any advice is welcome! Thanks!

Read the manual an use the detector, it gets better after about a 100 hours and you will notice tone changes and what is a good tone from bad one .

Welcome!   What make you think you need a Permit or License to Metal Detect?

Where are you?

Im in Columbus, GA. I don't know if I need a permit or not. I just don't want to get arrested for metal detecting without a permit or in a location that is illegal to detect.

Start reading the manual is a very good advice.
You can down load the manual from Garrett's web site, and be prepared when your detector arrive.

First, welcome to these forums.

When you get your machine, give in to the temptation to search your yard. It may surprise you. Then, after a year or so, go back and search it again but using the techniques you have learned over that year. If you carefully record the results of both hunts in a journal, you will probably see that you find more the second time than you did on the first hunt. Your elevated skills will be the answer to why that happens. Just remember that result and then go back and hunt all those other spots you already hunted when you were an amateur.
