I'm saving up my $$ and hoping to one day purchase an inexpensive shallow-water detector to use. I currently have a Garrett Ace 350, so my budget would probably be in about the same price-range (if there is such a detector in that range?). So, what are your recommendations?

Thanks.

How shallow of water ? All of White's metal detectors come with water proof coils, even the Coinmaster which is the least expensive priced around $150. The coils become hyper sensitive in water also so you will hit targets deeper in the water. My go to machine is my MXT PRO and I use it in the water all the time, had to dig about 2 feet ( NO FUN ) but I pulled a nice gold cross up so it was worth it in the end. The Coinmaster would have hit it also.

I'm thinking no deeper than knee-length. So the box will be out of the water.

Unless you get a water proof detector you dont want to get the box wet as you know, I use mine in the water about waste deep but carefull not to get the box wet. All of White's detectors come with water proof coils so how much you want to spend is up to you. If you got to White's home page you can check out all their machines however the prices you will see are higher then the prices you will get from dealers.
