I was thinking of making my own coil with resin but not sure sure which resin to use. Any ideas?

Any of the thin, waterproof resins will work. Thin because it needs to flow between the wires with a minimum of bubbles. The resin will change the impedance so you might find that your coil performs differently after potting (that's the term used for completely coating a coil).

Just one reminder. Don't use a resin that is metal reinforced. Some auto body resins have steel shavings in them for strength. And nothing flexible when it cures.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I read about a interesting solution about powerful PI coil.
Take a speaker wire  like that is used for musical boxes about 2x0,5mm diameter, 100feet length (that one whit transparent insulated) roll on around CD spindle cover about 30 times in same plan and brushed with ciclohexanone couple time. That will glue together all PVC surface.Let the PVC surfaces become harden again. Du not cut the conductor, near the coil, just get it to the detector, there twist both conductors to have just one coil not two (remember is a bifilar cable), now the diameter of conductor will be 1mm diameter and that will drive a more power from your detector, but you have to be sure the detector support this power. The coil have no contact whit salted water, are hard insulated on all his perimeter til to the detector.
If someone do this please tell us how it works!
   Regards
