Sanborn Maps can be had free and go from 1867 to 1970.
These are old fire insurance maps.
They covered most towns above 5000.
Best to access through your library via Internet.
You Need a access code and pass word that your library can supply.

Next Just Google the area you want to look at and Historic Maps.
"Deming New Mexico, Historic Maps"
That will get you something Most of the time.
As mentioned the Library will have stuff going back to the 1800's or so.
