Go Up Go Down

I used to be one of the kids coming up asking questions. Then I had my own machine as a kid. Now , I'm just getting back into detecting , and getting my kids into it as well. I still prefer to hunt with no onlookers nearby. But , once I get started , I'm good to go. I had a little girl ask me today if I was looking for treasure. I thought for a split second , and then said with a smile...."I sure am". This is a great hobby. We really shouldn't worry about what anybody may think about us. Life is short , enjoy it !
                                                    Good Luck ,    HH !

I too am also new to MD'ing, and yes i felt uncomfortable  Embarrassed when i first started MD'ing in public places i.e. parks, but the onslaught of loads of kids soon changed that. Sometimes its like the spanish inquisition, loads and loads of questions, like what you doin' have you found any coins, rings etc. and how much have you found?... after being called a loser for saying i've only found a couple of ring pulls a bit of old iron and a couple of bottle tops, i tend to say i've not found anything ... just some junk.  Undecided  but sometimes they are genuinely interested even though its only a ringpull ... looks like i may have accidently introduced a couple of new initiates to MD'ing    Cool Cheesy Grin
So yes you soon get over it, one way or another!  Cool

bomber, thats not a mother that was just a breading utensil, and ya right no wonder kids are like they are,
My kids and grand kids would never behave or talk like that, unless they were excessivly pushed into it and even then
i doubt if they would be rude, they would just stick to the facts
What a shame they had to ruin your day, sorry about that.

Bomber I have had the same thing happen, it is not a pleasant experience for sure, and you really don't want to yell back at the Mother  cause two wrongs don't make a right.  But i was lucky when it happend to me , as a park employee was with in listening distance and came over and asked the "lady" and her kids to leave after telling her that language was not allowed in the park.
Upon leaving the park , I looked at the "Rule Board" and sure enough it said  "No Curssing Allowed"  Grin  Grin  Grin

Yes bomber thats about the size of it, you remained a Gentleman even to the end.
Sometimes you wanna get right in to em, but that is never a good idea, they think they are on the Jerry Springer show
I have'nt had anything like that happen but I have had my backpack stolen with all my GPS + phone and battery pacs in it
I stopped detectng for around 8 months, I was so violently angry in side and i searched everywhere for that person,
It cost me 6 or $700 that day.

Azwip:

I understand your uneasiness.  There could be some additional reason for you to be concerned.  In Tucson, AZ, the city parks REQUIRE a permit.  The Pima County parks PROHIBIT metal detecting.  A nearby community, Oro Valley also allows detecting with a permit.

Also note that probably ALL Federal Parks and most State Parks prohibit metal detecting.

So, call the park office(s) to determine if you need some sort of permit - if you do, go get it and keep it with you.
