Why would i receive a high and low signal every time we swept at a site.  After it was dug we found an old chisel made in France 4" down. A repeated search of the immediate area produced nothing. When i air tested the find, only one signal was received. I was not using any discrimination.

You might of had your sensitivity/gain up to high or your ground balance could of been off,
High minerals can cause it so your GB needs to be spot on also small Iron particals from
the chiesel in the form of rust could cause it but once you break up the halo effect then it
goes and you no longer see it, also if the ground is very wet it can cause this effect.
when the ground is undisturbed and the soil is compact it some times gives off a signal
but once you disturb the ground and put air in the soil it then breaks up and no longer
happens,
First job is to ground balance you machine, if it is preset or automatic then try lowering your sensitivity
if that does'nt work try turning up your discrimination a little and see how that goes, hope this helps.

The Target could have been on the Threshold / Break point on the tones.

your machine has 4 tones, let's say the TID says 32 and bounces to 40 back and forth. You'll get tones for 32 and for 40 which may be low and mid tone. Iron will show up at any TID number depending on the size go swing over a manhole cover and see what it says lol. Also the shape of the object affects it. The F2 likes round stuff, tiny steel washers up to huge steel washers will come in strong. The F2 has 99 TID numbers, you'll learn to use that to your advantage when trying to ID what your digging. No other machine in that price range has that, you got the best machine for the money for sure!  Wise

Break point is the line the detector produces a high or low tone.

If you swing slow it may go low.

Fast and it may read as a High.
