Go Up Go Down

I'm looking into a few detectors. (coin, relic & Jewelery Hunting)  (I live in East coast NH)
Teknetics Delta 4000
Teknetics Omega 8000
fisher f4
fisher f5
Omega and f5 come with Jolly Roger headphone & Lesche digging tool.
I can afford any one of them. Looking for something easy to use, turn on and go with good depth. Leaning toward Omega, it is the newest model of all. looks easier to use. (looks can be deceiving)
Please help me with decision.
Thanks Brian

I don't think that any of those detectors are turn on and go mate, they take quite a learning curve.

Detectors are like Trucks.   I can't suggest one .   I can Suggest you get the cheapest one you can afford, Learn it and figure out what's better.

So, Digger65, did you pull the trigger on any of those detectors?   Of the bunch, the only one I've used is the Fisher  F4, but I'm confident you'd do well and be happy with any of them.  All four are good machines for their price points.  You'll also find lots of online help for each of them (though not quite as much as if you bought  a Garrett).

Yes I did. I purchased Fisher f5. Gave it a quic go the other day at camp, found 1 quarter & 2 penny's.  Detecting
There is a bit of a learning curve, I'm confident I can get. Anyone have any starter setting for inland and dry beach sand?

Congrats on your new machine, I had the F4 and it was a great little machine, but out of all the Fisher Machines I think the F5 is my Favourite,

Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

Turn on the detector and set 'Gain' to between 60 and 70. Set 'Discrim' level to 16. "Notch' out Foil and 'Tab'. (If you are in a newer area, you can also notch out 'Zinc' but be mindful that you will also be notching out IH pennies). Set "Thresh' to '0' or '-1". Set 'Tones to d3 or d4. Find an area that is clear of any metal and either do a fast grab or a manual ground balance. If the detector is noisy, try to change the 'Freq' or lower the 'Gain' a tad.

The F5 can be set up so many ways but to get started, I think the above settings will get you going. Pay close attention to the 'Fe 3 O 4' meter and the 'Confidence' meter. Then PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!!!!!! After you have become familiar with the detector, then you can start to play with the settings and set up the detector for your on needs.  Also try to find someone in your area that is experienced in detecting and go detecting with them. Find a nearby metal detecting club and join it! DO NOT get discouraged! This is not a get rich quick or easily learned hobby. Good luck!
