I'm new to metal detection devices but have been a rock hound since I could walk, have been creating my jewelry collection from purchasing stones and setting for the past few years and thought if I could make one investment to expand my collection the best would be in a metal detector to find for free what I pay so dearly for now.

Any tips on how to use or setup my Outlaw Pro for maximum treasure finds would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Missty:

There is a section on this site that is just for specific brands.  Just click on the home page and scole down.  What state are you from?  You can search on here for other people in your area.  One thing I would recommend is that you practice in your house with different metals, rings, pennies, dimes, nickels, quarters and all different kinds of metals or start in your yard.  Learn the sounds of your metal detector and try to perfect your pinpointing.  Good luck with your swingin'.

Hello Missty,

welcome to our forum and hope you will find it to be usefull in your venture for nice finds.

I am sorry for ahving to say but the Outlaw Pro is a very chealp machine made in China and being adverized under several brand names. Itc ost of production is very low and it has unfortunately very poor depth and overall performance - no matter how you set it. So don't be discouraged if you don't find much at first, it will likely be due toy our detector. If you get a chance to try too look for a preowned metal detector from for exaple Tesoro USD 150 - 250 will get you decent machine making this a fun hobby with lost of nice finds.

Regards,

Christian

yes but I hope this cheapo is enough to help me get the feel for the hobby so I can get a better perspective on what I really need to invest in new or used. And thanks for the hardy welcome!!

Hello Missty,

I understand you point. The tricky thing is that a cheap detector with a compareably low performance will not give you as many finds as a better machien would. Hence your trips might be a bit frustrating. Please keep this in mind and don't be discouraged if you don't find much in the beginning. Onece you decide to continue with this hobby and go for a better machine, your finds will also increase.

Best wishes and keep us posted about your progress,

Christian

Going to stick to my own yard for the next month or two to start live in an old area of FL, USA about 30 miles inland so by then I think I will know if my cheapo is worth taking elsewhere

Thanks for the advice. I really just hope to recover a few pieces I've lost in the past few years if I find more all the better.  Smiley

Welcome to the forum.

There is indeed nothing wrong, to my eyes, in starting with a cheap detector model.

But if you get the detecting virus, no doubt you will want to trade up.

When the time comes, feel free to ask advice here on the forum before purchasing.

Just found 466 coins and a gold bracelet in the very first 18 hours of using my brand new Compadre, so don't get discouraged !

HH

If your detector is detecting metal then it is working as a metal detector.
