Ok so i've been shopping around and researching.  Its seems the more I learn the more complicated this gets.  I want to get a MD that I can use for everything, including prospecting for gold.  Should I get a Gold detector or an all around model? Do the gold detectors do everything in-between?  I don't need a submergible model, but waterproof coils would be nice.  I don't mind a steep learning curve, I'm pretty tech savvy.  Thanks for any suggestions.

most of the "non" gold detectors operate at too low of a frequency to find the small gold nuggets (the exception being most Tesoro's).   A good gold detector will find everything for you including lots of junk.   If your budget is limited, I'd look at Tesoros.   If you've got a bit more to spend look at Garrett's new AT GOLD or at a good used detector that operates in the same general frequency range.

If you can swing it this is a Kick Em  Machine.

Life time Broke Fix is cool too.

Homies, right....the Lobo Super Traq is a great little machine.     I'd suggest looking at both the AT Gold and the Lobo Super Traq.   Either one would do everything you've mentioned that you want to do.   And I've seen the Lobo Super Traq perform wonderfully in the hands of a lot of coin, relic, and gold hunters here in Arizona.

i noticed the tesoro doesn't have a display like most other models.  I.E. depth and metal type.. is that a negative? Is it hard to learn?

A lot of us consider not having a display a big plus.....you're less likely to miss something good if you have to rely on your ears than on how the computer analyzes the signal.   The displays are far from foolproof (even though I will concede they have improved a lot).   Besides, by not having to spend for that portion of the machine, Tesoro is able to put more time and money into the other portions.

I just did upgrade to an MXTpro from whites and hope the machine will find small placer gold nuggets with the coils it comes with?It was a little expensive, but the detector has had great reviews from all the research I have done.I would look at some detecting videos and field tests and weigh your options!
