Go Up Go Down

Hi There,

I had an S-Video cable that was no longer working so I got it into my mind that I should see what it looked like with no rubber.   so I removed the rubber to reveal a wire mesh, with then cover a foil wrappy which was around 8 wires of a very small guage.

The part that got me baffled was the connector ends, the mesh and the wrap all rang up as metal with the detector....however, the wire used did not.

I stripped one down, it had 7 small wires in it that looked like a metal of silver colour, but would not be picked up my my pin pointer or metal detector.

Is this an alloy of some type that is not truly a metal?  Or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Trust me here .   The Wires are metal.

Try Wadding some up and then retest them.

I'm gonna trust you....I brought some into wor, as well as my pin pointer, and we notinced a few unshielded cables that also don't sound off in anyway....Needless to say....we had an office of computer programers baffled by this  Cheesy

And computer programmers are knowledgeable about metal detectors??? Really?

No mystery here, mate. You need a certain amount of metal mass before you can expect to detect it. A hair thin piece of metal won't do it.. Like Homefire says, take some and roll it into a ball or flatten some into a lacy coin shaped web and see what happens. You really don't need a committee of computer programmers to figure this out. In fact, they have no better chance of giving you an answer than the office cleaning staff.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

GD - Why all the hate on us programmers Sad   We do nothing but make code to make people's life easier....well, when the programs work anyway Smiley

I didn't say my office of programmers knew about metal detectors, as far as I know, i'm the only person here that has one. And I made no claim to be a knowledgeble MD person in anyway
