2 things.  Does anyone keep a notebook?  And-  what is a good deep probe, very inexpensive md?  My wife doesn't want me to start md-ing at all because of the money situation?  I am really interested in meteorites and would like to go as deep as possible.  I guess most of these don't go much over 2.5- 5 cm, (1-2 inch), in size.  Depth can be anything as they work to the surface over the years after being buried over what could be any length of time.

Hello Stormy,

I'm not sure what you have in mind regarding the notebook? You mean a laptop?

Well, your cheapest bet would be to find a used machine on eBay. The cheapest you can get is a Garrett Ace 150 or 250 at USD 100 - 200.00 pre owned. However an used Tesoro Lobo Supertraq at about USD 350.00 would serve you better.

Regards,

Christian

Thanks for the info.  Yes, I was referring to a comp.  I also just found a post from a month or so ago asking the same question about the md.  Got lots of good info from that. My hunting fever is getting worse.  Or maybe I should say better.

Well, so what have you been aiming at regarding the notebook? Do you plan on taking a notebook with you in the field? If yes for what purpose.

Best wishes,

Christian

I'll take the notebook and a gps.  Note location, date etc.  Check for possible connections such as maybe a break up.  Not sure yet if weather conditions will help or not.  All in all it will be an experience learning thing,

as well I have seen some nice machines go very resonable on there as well. also check Your local pawn shops too. you would be surprised at what you may find.

One of the best Notebooks is the Asus Eee "Netbook".
- very Lightweight
- very long Battery Life
- cheap, even new

Weakness :
- useless for 3D Stuff like Games,
- too slow for HD Video

Be Careful with old, used Notebooks - most of them need a new Battery
which is very expensive and lasts only 1-2 hours in the Field anyway

Thanks to you both.  I hadn't thought of pawn shops but there are some big ones around.  Very good idea.  I have looked at some of the really new comps with flash drives.  Sounds too good to be true.  No hard drive to wear out.  All this new stuff is nice but it sure is hard to keep up.
