TDI numbers are nothing but a Bench mark.  There not even standardized between machines.

They sure are not Absolute.

They who depend on the TDI, Looooooooose the goodies.

Again, you have to hear the song the machine can make.

That's why I will never own a single Beep it's hear machine.

It has to Sing.

I love the Blop Blop of a long object.

I love the Swiuuuum of the soft sound of  Nugget Gold.

I love the Bonk of a good coin.

Some day I'll write a Translation of the Analog detector sounds to English!

LOL!

Sorry, I get up set knowing folks are missing the goods depending on a Machine to tell them when to dig.

Tisk, Tisk , Tisk

You are so right Homefire!  Clapp  And with my old X-70 the gold ring gives a crackly ping!  I haven't found a gold ring with the X-200 yet, but it and the X-70 both give a good solid bonk!  with coins and silver rings.  Great machines, those analog detectors.  Detecting

Are the tones produced by different metals unique to different Md's or is there a standard tone and duration that can be recorded and used by us newbees?

Overhill, my experience is that different detectors produce different tones.  Some detectors even have a tone adjustment to set to your personal preference.  There are similarities in tones from various machines. But you just have to learn your individual machine well enough to be familiar with what target produces what tone!  And that takes practice in the field, and you will be making good finds, maybe even great finds, while you learn what your detector is telling you.  Detecting    Rider
