Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505
« on: August 13, 2012, 06:17:59 pm »
Go Up Go Down

Hi There,

Quick question for the experts to make sure I am doing things correctly.  I have a Bounty Hunter 505 with the stock 8 inch coil and I was wondering when the "ping" sound occurs when a target is identified.  Is it when the leading edge of the outer circle hits the target, or when the center circle of the coil hits the target?  I would think it's the inner circle, but when I try digging I seem to be all over the place before I find what the target is.  Maybe I just need more practice, but any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Chris

Go to All Metal to Pin Point.     You will Know where it is. Cool

Ok, so use the Discrete setting till I locate a target I like, then switch to all metal mode....I can give that a whirl next time out.   Thanks Smiley

I own a Pioneer 505 (one of my favorite coin monsters) and the inner circle generally tells you where the coin is with relative accuracy. You are right that the outer circle also picks and signals the target, but the inner circle beeps it stronger. I suggest that you invest in a pinpointer to avoid making a bigger plug and take care of business faster. As indicated to you, the all-metal feature also makes the trick, but it may also picks trash that the machine ignored otherwise. It is up to you how to do it, but the BH 505 is a great machine no matter what  Kiss

on my lone star it depends on the target, coins are usually within the inner coil, nails for me tend to pick up in between the coils. I find circling the target and hitting it from every angle pins it down more precisely. But I am looking forward to having a detector with a rough guesstimate of depth as well as a more precise pinpoint. I am using a whites bulls eye II but it will only pick up from about an inch away, I am building a petropointer from the schematics I found on here and hoping the 2" they claim is going to be reality, if so it should make it easier to pinpoint.

Thanks for the tips and Cyberborikua, I'll keep playing around with the settings between Disc and all metal and maybe when I find enough, i'll buy a pinpointer Smiley

Caleb, let me know how your build goes, maybe I'll take a stab at making one too Smiley
