Be aware that ultrasonic can case stones to come out of rings, I know this because I worked part time for a jeweler and it happened while I was there, he told me that this was quite common with the older rings.
I have a simple method that I use and that is also reversible for my iron relics, first I place them in a electrolytic bath then I wax them. I said reversible because wax can be removed NOT electrolysis. I had a look to see what I could come up with for you but it dose not look like I have some before photos so here are some after photo but will keep looking for you.

Bicarbonate of soda for your electrolysis and I used ordinary candle wax, just leave the item in it long enough for it to get hot then hang and let drip but keep an eye on it as the last drop will need your help. I'm busy looking at methods of using electrolysis for brass (ordinary electrolysis dose not work on brass) there needs to be the chemical reaction with the steel and the current, that's what makes the bubbles and remember to connect the NEG to the item to be cleaned NOT POS.

NO set time.   Depends on the Current your running.   Best to keep a eye on it until you have some ideas as to what's going on.

It will also depend on the item, see the pliers well they were in for an hour because there was a lot of rust on them and I could have left them in longer, I also had to change the solution three times.
