rr.....search 'best detector' using the search box at the top of the page.  be sure you search the entire forum.   There are a whole lot of very good detectors in your price range.   Which is going to be best for you is going to depend on a lot of individual criteria, including which "feels" best.   With so many good detectors out there, there really isn't one "best" detector--especially in that range.

I'm amazed at how well my $200 Fisher F2 works. I would imagine the F5 would be a great choice. Just my 2 cents.

Hello . Beach or Land Metal Detector ? New or used ? Then you will really get some answer's  . Me personally , my number 1 choice is always Whites and 2nd place is Tesoro .  Just my opinion , but I did read an amazing Field test on the $200 dollar Fisher F2 by the way .

Best Regards...........Eugene

hello,i think for now i would say for land and also new or used doesent matter.i just want to get the most bang for the buck.i am going on a dig on a historic site that was traveled from 1800 to 1902.just by looking at the area i can see allot of junk on the surface.it's a area in Montana that had thousands of western travelers during the gold rush to Idaho.i have located several campsites a few graves and a Indian village.also,6 log cabins.the site is 20,000 acres and has a wagon trail 300 feet wide.the land is private and has never been searched.i guess i need something that will separate the junk from the goods.thanks.bob
