Bounty Hunter TRacker IV

I just picked up my first MD, a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. I have some Duracell "Procell" alkaline 9v batteries.  I am concerned about the warning in the manual which states " Do not use HEAVY DUTY batteries".  The Procell batteries are termed "professional alkaline batteries", I wouldn't think that "professional = HEAVY DUTY, but what  do ya'll think?

Batteries:

Alkaline batteries have a longer power life at the same maintained voltage output. Also are less likely to leak.

Heavy duty Batteries drop of in voltage quickly, ramping constantly downward and also are more likely to leak and corrode.

Alkaline batteries voltage stays at that constant value of voltage output much longer then drops rapidly at the end of life.

Rechargeables will also be unlikely to leak and can save you money over the long run.

There are a number of sites on the net that offer these with free shipping. They pay for themselves after 3 uses. They also save the environment.

If you ever have a leaky battery.

Clean the contacts inside with moist baking soda several times.

This will neutralise the acids on the contacts.

Then wipe contacts with denature alcohol.

Spray a tissue with a light spray of WD-40 and wipe contacts.

WD-40 will not hurt conduction of installed batteries. Is used frequently with electrical contacts. Also benefits as moisture resistance.

Alkaline batteries are workhorses but the term Heavy Duty refers to a distinct class of batteries which are not alkaline.

You have in your hands a good choice for batteries. In high summer temperatures, remove them and store them in a cool place, perhaps in the refrigerator or in a cool room.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Heavy Duty batteries are sort of a mis Nomar.     Old type batteries made of Zinc, Carbon Rod and Electrolyte past.

Leaking Most of the time after full discharge.

Alkaline batteries are the Better Battery.  LOL!

Procells by Duracell are alkaline batteries that are manufactured for industrial / commercial use. They are packaged in bulk for large quanity battery users. They are not by really "heavy duty" and per your book and should work just fine in the detector.
