Went out today after a big rain to my favorite spot I noticed that penny's would come up as solid dime on the detector is it normal  Detecting

Yes Mate because the water makes the ground more conductive helping you get more depth also thunder storms
help out as well, but if it has rained it is a little betterif the top 2" is dryer
