I'm going to have t check out that pin pointer for $17. That's a heck of a price if its any good. Thanks for the info. Necessity truly is the mother of invention cause you folks sure come up with some great ideas to go after stuff.

 Hey What part of South Bama you from? South Monroe here. When I hunt in clay and packed with gravel or old road beds i use a set of post hole digger works the best, Its a pain in carry but it works or a short grubbing hoe.

If you can find an old cultivator point, weld a spike in the center hole and put a handle on it. I use one for digging in the very rocky places. Works great nad not much power needed.

I'm thinking either would make a wicked digging tool, but unless you're talking a small tip I hope he's talking about the 2nd one.   The "wings" on the first one look like they were made to snag a carelessly placed leg or a foot.

grandpa had some of the first style that were made for his garden cultivator that definitely would have done the trick, but they were about 3 or 4 inches on a side.
