Undecided I was a bit upset at your comments earlier, it made me feel like I did not want to come on this forum. Sad It was the way you spoke to me. Hopefully now you might consider your approach to people's questions.

I hope you have been helped with your setup.   I know from exp. that it can be a bit daunting to get things working at first.  If you have not yet done so, try to run some coins under the coil and note the sounds.  These sounds will be pretty consistant when they are in the ground.  Also run some junk you anticipate to find like pull tabs, bottle tops, nails and the likes.
GoldDigger is steering you right.  Ground balance needs to be done on the turf if you want any depth. Moving the coil toward and away from the ground should not change tone if it is balanced however some tweeking of the balance can increase your responses. This likely is something you will become quite familiar with as you will need to keep balancing as you detect away.
At any rate keep coming back and let us know if you need more assistance.  There are a bunch of people here who can answer just about any detecting question you have.

Are you addressing me or someone else? Since this was posted right after my comments, I can't imagine what I said here to upset you.

FYI, to avoid this in the future, please address your comments to the person by name in your post. Scroll through and let me know who it was that upset you. I'll have them executed at dawn. Well, not really, but the thought of it might make you smile. Here, executions are done by stoning - with gold nuggets. That way you go out with a smile.

Thanks for the pat on the back but the person who gave him the help was Homefire.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Hello and welcome. iam just starting out as well. i found videos on youtube helpful. Detectors are so different from one brand to the other. I learned so much information about my detector from videos. Then joined a local metal detecting club. Lots and lots of help and fun..Enjoy

Hi Tamitoys!  Good to hear from you.  You've been absent for a while.  Hope it is because you have been spending all you spare time detecting!

Well hi back to you. Yes i have been hunting most of the summer. I purchased a camper near Rehoboth Beach Delaware. Learning how to hunt in the water and beach. So much fun. Cant wait to hit the beach after Sandy hits shore. When i can get to the beach after the unblock the roads. How it with you?
