There's more then a few good Gold detectors out there.

Are you thinking VLF or PI?

I have a great deal of experience detecting for gold. When you say very deep I have to question just how deep. I have used the Minelab 4000 for years and found gold as deep as 2 feet. I have dug some holes deeper and found junk but I would think depending on the soil conditions the best you can expect from any detector is about 3 feet. If the gold is deeper than that you will probably need to move up to a two box or something more exotic. No matter what brand you buy I believe you will need a Pulse Induction unit to achieve any real depth.  Wise

I will go for Pi White TDI pro or if you have a Lot$$$$ go for MLgpx5000.Personally I have spectra V3 which have prospecting mode , could work perfect in states, but here in Oz in gold fields is a struggle because of hot ground in WA,in old field in NSW work fine .I did not find any  deep raw yet,but only forgoten little items max to 6 inch in old digging of NSW.But not gold yet all relic and lots of nails. But I keep hunting and hopefully when I have $$$ i go for PI machine ,reason being it is perfect for any gold fields. With out put any machine down, I personally thing Spectra v3 is the best VLF machine on market ,and my one is not upgraded version yet,but I did not mastered yet and it is a lot to learn on it.Whites did a perfect job ,but you need a patience and drive to master all the tricks and setting.
All the best in hunting whatever detector you choose, learn the machine to the best potential, after all all of them are only metal detectors.

Fenix has a good point. The Whites TDI is much less expensive and a little more versatile. If you decide to go coin shooting or relic hunting the Minelabs really aren't designed with enough discrimination to be fun to use.
