Hi, I'm living in Iran and there is no good source to learn about detectors. But I searched the web and i know that there are different types of detectors. As I'm providing an article about this subject, I have to know more... But first I should understand which metal detector operates well and professionally ?!
Please tell me and introduce some sources to find out;
Thanks, Hessam

Hello Hassan,

do you need to write a report on the technology behind a specific detector or will you need to build one?

Regards,

Christian

Hello
Yes I want to Know about the newest technology behind detectors. But not about commercial ones. The science, for example PI or VLF and...
Or I want to know if there is a way to simulate a metal detector by computers !!!
(We have an electrical engineering conference in Iran and I want to write about the newest technology of detectors.)
Best Regards, Hessam.

The best Resource for the Technology of Metal Detecting is

In my humble Opinon, there is not much Progress in Metal Detecting Tech,
a 20 year old VLF/IB is still a good Detector.
Simulation should be possible in SPICE Programs, Proteus being one of the finest,
but i didnt manage to simulate the Coil(s) / Target Model yet,
its like a loosely coupled Transformer, quite complex.

I will tell you, I owned a TEKNETICS EUROTEK awhile back and it was a very decent little machine at only about $160 dollars U.S. on ebay.  It had plenty of depth and I could even search in the wet saltwater sand as long as I turned the sensitivity down to about 3 on the dial.  What happened to me and that detector was that I was getting tired of all the junk digging I was doing on the beaches I searched--but what really made me get rid of it was that my flat screen TV got blown up in a sudden lightning strike that hit it and so I sold the detector to help me get another TV. That detector has a NUMBER ONLY type of meter---you just have to remember what numbers coincide with what type target as you hunt. For example a USA Quarter would be about 90  and a nickel or gold item might come in at about 35--43 or close to that. It really is a good little detector.

One of my favorite basic coin hunting detectors was the BOUNTY HUNTER PIONEER 202. Costs about $225  U.S.or a little less on ebay. That detector has an excellent coin ID meter for USA coinage. The meter is very accurate! The detector doesn't go so deep, but remember this--I've found the oldest of my coins at no deeper than 4 or 5 inches and I'm talking about coins from the early to mid 1800's. I would suggest buying the little 4 inch search coil for use in really trashy areas where all sorts of junk items are in the ground. 8" doesn't go much deeper and the 4" works great at finding coins in amongst the trash.

If you don't necessarily need a ID meter, a TESORO COMPADRE which costs a little less than $170 U.S. on ebay, is a really good little detector for the money. You can buy the 5.75" coil version or the 8" coil version of this detector.  I HOPE THIS HELPS.
