I just spent 2 hours hunting and found 46 cents ( 1 quarter , 11 pennies , 1 dime , 1 odd looking piece shaped like Italy , under the silver mark  on my MD ! All coins are of recent years .  Is this the average finds for that amount of time hunting . I see everyones daily finds ( which I enjoy seeing ) but how long does it take on the average to find stuff ? Also , how often does everyone find gold rings and older coins ?

You should be so lucky to average 23 coins per hour every time you go hunting.I have on many hunts spent 4 to 5 hours with only 3 to 4 hits.Keep up the good work Detecting

Cali, there's no way to calculate an average......someone hunting in a place where lots of coins change hands (like a farmer's market) shortly after the event is generally going to have a better average than someone who is hunting in an "old hunted out" neighborhood park and neither compares to beaches.  not to mention city hunters versus country hunters, the UK versus the United States, Germany versus Australia, etc, etc.

Most of us would consider your coins a pretty good return.

Go Up Go Down

Hi all, my first post on this site.
My last time out I found 4 coins in 4 hours... a farthing of George III (circa 1806), Florin of Victoria 1899, Halfpenny (Victoria) 1863, and an Edward VII Penny of 1906.
I'd say that theres no real 'average finds' detecting day, as its all totally dependent on so many' variables'.
My suggestion is to just enjoy each session, and be thankfull for whatever you find.
Good luck,
Hodge.

Hi Hodge,  thanks for the input.  Your advice is spot on.

Why don't you go over to the New Users Introduction board and formally introduce yourself to the rest of the members?   You may be the first person from Wales that some of them have had a chance to say hello to.

Last night while it was fairly windy, I decided to m/d my back yard. I didn't expect much, but hoped that I'd get just one coin. So, I started scanning, and everything I found was just junk. Metal nails, odd screws, etc. Just rusty trash. So that average (about 1/2 hr) was zero. I've gone over to a volleyball court with sand in it, and in about 1.5 hrs, I picked up 2 dimes, and 6 pennies. But - that's a high coin area.

Personally, I have a few spots I have been going to over and over again. Just now getting to the point where I can find anything besides trash and nails. Once all the trash is cleaned up I just know a cool find will be waiting for me! Until then, I am cleaning up the environment and keeping the little hands and feet that play there a little bit more safe. That alone is a reward.
