While at the "Gold Rush Days" in Ohio this weekend, my wife snuck off and bought me a Fisher Gold Bug from one of the vendors. Can any one tell me anything about it. I wasn't planning on getting into Metal Detecting for about another year or two, so I don't know very much about the subject. Any information about this machine, or helpful information about Metal Detecting in general, would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations, she bought you a good detector.  Spend some time with the manual, and also use the search function at the top of this page to find previous threads on the Gold Bug.  (by the way, it's called gold bug for a reason...it has a reputation of doing a pretty decent job of finding nuggets of all sizes---of course it helps if your detecting where there's a history of placer gold being found.).

Well, well, well . . .

Another treasure hunter bitten by the bug and he doesn't even know it yet.

Mate, once you find that first piece of metal that is more than just trash, your blood will change into ice water and your vision will become sharp and clear. Your focus will be on the treasure you uncovered and your life will be changed forever. And you have your bride to thank for that. Bless her warm heart, mate. She's a keeper. Kiss

Here's something for your future treasure shack's wall. Print it on bright yellow or gold card stock.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Hey Thanks everyone; but I already knew my wife was terrifical! It's just good to know my Machine is terrifical too. I've got quite a few hits in the front yard already, but I haven't broke ground yet. I'm just getting familiar with the sounds and feel of the new fangled gadgetry. Wise
