Trying to remember from my Engineer days. Does wet ground make the detector work better or does it cause to give off false signals? I can remember swinging our old AN/PSS-11 Mine Detectors in some pretty wet stuff. Didnt know if these modern gadget had taken that into account or not.

Moderately Damp soil target depth in better for sure.

It can also emphasize the Halo effect of order targets in the ground.
