Buy a used brand name White's, Fisher,Garrett,Bounty Hunter,Tosoro, and you can't go wrong. You can catch some Bounty Hunters New at $159 and your getting a warranty and that's always good. Just don't buy a cheep off brand like the Radio Shack junk, it will do nothing but discourage you

Perhaps you may want to check out our forum auction for a detector and pin pointer.

Kellco is having an amazing sale right now, with a complete starter kit for the Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505. Check out recent posts and you will see it, or PM Kellco Chick and ask her about the secret forum sale page. I love my bounty hunter!

If you check the big Sunday newspaper today there is a Memorial Day sale till June the 4th,2011 on the Bounty Hunter elite-2200 for $139 us dollars and it has the standard 5 year warranty . I think this will be a great beginner machine and yes with tax it is around 45 dollars above the 100 budget . Also before you buy ask the salesman if you are not happy with the detector performance if it can be returned to the store for a full refund .
I know Wal-mart once gave me a refund on a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202 a few years back [it was less than 30 days old] , cleaned it up and put it back in the box , not a problem . With today's economy $100 to $150 is a lot of money . If the field tests I read are correct on the "Elite 2200" than you will keep it for a long time anyway !!

Best Regards...............Eugene

I caution all newbies about going the "cheap" rout. You will only get discouraged and waste the money spent on the cheap detector. Save a little longer and get a good brand entry level machine. You will save yourself a lot of grief and frustration.

Would someone explain what discrimination is, I'm trying to learn MDing without many resources and keep seeing people mention it. I am assuming it has to do with filtering out junk hits?

I would watch craigslist and get a better model used. I'm a bargan hunter though too Smiley Got a killer deal on my Minelab that way and didn't spend much more than your talking about.

My advise would be to save a little longer and buy a new entry level Garrett or Tesoro, the warranty coverage is worth it and you will getting your money's worth with those brands.
