Where do you experienced guys find the most treasure.
I am still pretty new at this metal detecting.
Example of my question: Are beaches the only place to find treasure the most?
Thanks for any help on this topic.

As previously mentioned, tot lots are quite productive.  The parks themselves can produce some nice things.  I have some luck on the old homestead farm lands.  Beaches/fresh water shorelines can be very productive.  Fair grounds are very, very productive.

My personal favorites are the highly used summer camps of yesteryear. Boy Scout camps, old Jamboree sites, church camps and the like are always just overflowing with goodies. Fresh water beaches with picnic grounds are also quite good.

Hay Treasure hunter,

I have been fairly successful doing inland hunting.

I find most gold jewelry in playgrounds. Schools
that have playgrounds that are used by the public
are just as productive.

Schools in general are good. Sprots fields are slower
and harder to hunt, but they will produce jewelry as
well.

If you can find where people drink alchol and have
sex out doors, there will be jewelry all over that spot.
These spots are trashy.

Large events, like state fairs or any event where lots
of folks gather on the ground, especially at night. At
night, it is harder to find lost items. These spots are
trashy also.

Around concrete decks at public swimming pools can
be very productive if women sunbath on tha deck much.
Tha jewelry rolls off tha deck. The fence makes it hard
to retrieve.

Those are my best spots for gold jewelry,

Tabdog

This kinda depends on what I'm after, but most places have a good mix!  I used to hunt a lot of the (rural) high school student gathering areas (where they all gather at lunch time or before/after school). I'd always come away with loads of coins and occassionally jewelry. More people detecting and some of the gathering habits changed (smoking stopped)... resulted in my recoveries being reduced.  The beaches always provide coins, tokens and jewelry (along with lots of lost fishing lures, lead weights, etc).  Under bleachers at school football fields coins and (rarely) jewelry.  Parks where people exercise (jogging tracks), edges of sidewalks at the grass line at elementary schools (though rebar in the sidewalks can be "fun").  Old houses or sites where one burned down at good for a little of everything.  Be sure to get permission and know there will be a lot of trash as well.  Old farms are good for coins, military items (civil/revolutionary war).  It's all fun!

Veteran treasure hunters get good finds about anywhere.  They are seasoned and know how to do it.  After awhile you get a sixth sense on where to look.  Many times I have driven down a country road and had the feeling I need to stop and investigate.  Most of the time when I do I find something of value.

Knowing your detector is a must.  I have seen dirt diggers find stuff with cheap, and I do mean cheap, metal detectors that someone passed over with a Garrett.  Sure, you need to hunt all the obvious places mentioned earlier, but I have found good fortune in the middle of nowhere along a river bank in a poison ivy patch while fishing.  Take your detector with you everywhere you go and leave it in the trunk.  You never know when you might get the urge to "whip it out".

By the way, when I lived in Oregon one of my favorite places to detect was nude beaches on days that were too cloudy or cold for sunbathers.  After all, they take it all off and more often than not leave a few treasures behind.

Confessions of a white-haired 35 year veteran in the sport of dirt diggin'.

Steve

These guys really covered it well. One other place I've had success is old church grounds especially unpaved parking areas and the picnic areas. It's amazing the amount of coins that never make it to the collection plate! Wink
