Hi Wil

Some BFO detectors have a fairly good ground penetration there main problem is stability they are very sensitive to temperature change the one that I build had a ground penetration of about 150mm. I am still convinced that if one could make a BFO that is stable that it could be a good machine however why stress with BFO when you can get a PI machine and use it in wet condition unlike the BFO that gives a signal on wet grass.

Regards Xavier

Right Xavier, I built a PI detector, it is deep seeking, but it has no discrimination. i want to build a crystal controlled BFO circuit  I saw on the web. In addition, I am now discouraged because I found out that in my State of Michigan, it is illegal to metal detect on public land. What a load of bull****!

Wil

A BFO only has a ferrous and non ferrous indication you have to decide to dig or not to dig what you want is a VLF but I would not use the discriminator let me tell you why see if you have a nice gold coin next to a pull tab and you have the discriminator on there are lots of chances that you will miss the gold coin also is you do not do the proper adjustments you will miss out on a lot of finds personally I'm against discriminators but that?s only my opinion as for not being permitted to hunt on public turf I do not see it as a problem I?m sure that there must be farms and plenty of private land that you could ask permission to hunt on.

Regards Xavier
PS can you post me the diagram of that BFO
