What do you think?
Worth a shot at building?

Looks like a great project and a useful detector to learn a few things on. Smiley

Hello Paul A Thank-You for your work on this forum !!! The BFO circuit you posted above has two  disadvantages and one  advantage !! The Bad is  1. No discrimination   2. Parts #1 and #2  I have labeled are hard to get , also the oscillators tuning capacitor is unstable especially with any outside temperature change , "constant-retuning" . The advantage is the 494 khz frequency will cut through highly mineralized or bad soil without a problem . Check all the circuits posted on this Forum First , then make your final Project Decision !!

 Great..................Eugene52

Hi Eugene,
Yes, I was thinking along those lines too.
Never been a great fan of using "tuning capacitors" for the reasons of drift.
It was the frequency that quite appealed to me.
As I'm in the u.k. there are quite a few "Hammered Silver" in the soil here!
They seem to respond much better to higher frequency detectors.
P.I. don't seem to work at all well on these types of target which are normally found at depths of less than 6" or so.
I'm using a Minelab Explorer II as my main detector - sometimes it finds them, sometimes not, especially if the ground is mineralised to any extent.
My thoughts were along the lines of clearing all the trash with the Explorer and then going over the ground again with a much higher frequency machine.

 Great

Burgar!  Not hard!  Just time and a soldering iron, solder and parts.  Time and I really want to do this helps!

Got all the parts except for some caps!  Going to the library in the morning to photo the board transparency.

Only one of the ladies will let met put transparency sheets in the copier! Undecided

Iron on the circuit board and hit it with echent!

When you photo copy to clear plastic, you have to make sure you bump up the contrast to get as much toner as you can!

Make sure you iron it at cotton setting with a clean sheet of paper between.
