hi, I'm looking in the net to buy this detector (whites CM II BFO), but I'm also trying to build one by myself.

A couple of months ago I email whites electronics and they send me the schematics (they are very friendly),

but I have a problem, the schematics is missing coil data (turns, inductance...)
and value of the variabile capacitor, other components are not so clear...

they told me this is all they have, only the schematics they send to me and no other information on the missing data (may be they have something in old paper documentation...).

Someone here is willing to help ? maybe take measures of the those component on a real unit ?

thank you.

If any of you need the schematics i could share in private message, ok ?

PM Schematic to me.  I'm sure it can be figured out.  Better would be just to Post it on the Forum.  The Circuit is so dated I really don't see whites getting too upset.

This is Not a BFO.   TR or IB maybe .   It seems I'm unable to find much at all on that machine.   That being so you could tune the Coils to anything within Reason of original.    As for the MFC400B / 4000B ic that too seems lost in history.  Just some amplifier that could be worked around I think.

Not much of a Detector.  You could do a pile better with less head efforts.

Got Curious and did some more looking.  Your Mystery IC  has another name.    WE4110...   As per the folks below the (WE) is a House number for Whites Electronics.   Here is another Schematic with a bit more info but still nothing on the coil.  Not the Tuning Cap not shown on yours.

May contact this site and see it these folks are still around.  They was working on one.

I Know. I have the TGSL-IGSL..
but i Like "vintage" machines... Unfortunately they do not sell in italy in the past..
So we never see used jetcos whites and garret from '70..
Maybe it's time for me to come in US with a big big bag and go garage sales.

Oh yes it's a long story... I think that if we could have better shipping options we (European)
Buy all Americans used stuff.
I remember when I pay 80 dollars to get a sluice and a gold pan from Cali but there are many
Items and collectibles that never sell in Europe.
To return on topic here the "commercial" metal detecting didn't start in '60
Only poor design machines from hobby magazine were avaible and the metal-detector man was often
A electronic skilled who can build this machines... Or another category called "recuperanti"
They use old army detectors go dig ww1 shells to sell iron this was in the '50

Ok enough off topic !!

Found this about your detector.  It uses the Whites 4B coil.  May have better luck looking for that info.

The schematic is for a 1966 Whites Goldmaster 66 detector. Whites referred to them as S66 and as a 66 TR. If the meter is red then the detector is definitely a TR machine. If so, it probably had a 4B coil.

It was a private party drawn schematic, and was not a Whites factory schematic. I do have a copy of it previously and it came in a .PDF file. Your schematic probably fits both the vintage 66 machine and this remake machine!

Now there was a remake of the old Whites 1966 Goldmaster metal detector, and to keep it straight from the older versions which were even older then the 1966 models, Whites put a "II" designation on. Now the older version of this 66 TR machine, was a pure metal/mineral detector, WITHOUT discrimination, and in the re-make it had an discriminator feature added.

Why? To compete with the new 1974-1975 Compass version called the Judge 2 metal detector! I know this as I was a national advertiser for Compass during that time, and the Compass machine came out in the fall of 1974, and it was part metal/mineral, and part discriminator. So you see, I know a lot about the early Whites and the early Compass machines.

You are lucky, as I was an former Whites metal detector dealer, and have an extensive collection of past knowledge.

You will not be able to print it out, as it is copyrighted, and I do not know exactly when this "re-make" of the older Goldmaster 66 TR detector, with the older 4B coil was actually manufactured.  Bit at least I have provided you with the information which you and your party can read.

Does this field test help you???  If his unit can be photographed, I would like to have copies of the photos. So if your party could make some good photos of the inside of the unit, I would be grateful myself, as I am going to come out with various booklets on various models in the future.

So you lucked out and found the right guy for your information...

But it was called a Goldmaster 66 TR 4B as far as the model name. And Whites put it out primarily to compete with the new Compass metal/mineral Judge 2 metal detector in the year 1974-1975. Compass came out with theirs in the fall of 1974, and Whites came out with their version right after the Compass version came out.
