Has anyone else ever used the Filter King Plus long range detector and if you have one or used, did you have any luck. I have one that my Dad had but still doing trial and error to using it. I tried to find out if the maker, Claude Cochran is still around but can't find him through Google.
I even tried to find out the address but no luck. I have the instructions and manuals but could use some more instight on the workings of fine tuning the system. Would appreciate any help someone could offer if you did or now use this type of detector. Thank you.

Welcome from NM.

They work best in a glass case on the wall.

Every time you see it, remind your self how much money was lost when that one was bought.

If I made it and sold it,  I would make Dang sure you could never find me.

Thanks for the encouragement, I've tried it a couple of times but no luck yet. It says that it works with more than 6 ounces but still trying to find that, will keep on trying, sounds like it's a good thing I didn't actually spend the money on it but unfortunately my Dad did pay for it, serious $$$$$$$$.

I appreciate the offer, looks tempting but will pass at this time, will keep the one I have in the case. Will let you know if the site pans out with a cache find or just another goose chase, I did find the link that you gave to another member for the permission slip, think I'll use that for some of the sites but I did just ask on the first one and got permission with no problem but the slip is a definate way to go to help protect both parties, thanks.

LOL!   Stick around.   We have fun here.

Some people get a weeeeee bit too serious on this stuff and start getting upset and stuff.

Some People swear those thinks work.

It's just that no one has been able to show it..

We hear all sorts of stories on I remember when.

My Buddy!

I found!

Sun Spots blinded it while I was demonstrating it to them.

No One person can show one working.

The only thing I have of someone showing it working is in a video that came with the equipment but that's probably a little bit impartial since they are the ones trying to sell the product, things that make you go hmmmmmmmm.

I still get a kick out of your ingenious metal detector "Y" stick, what a great idea, showed it to the wife, she had that, what the heck look on her face, so I didn't even try to explain it to her but forwarded the picture to a buddy of mine, will have to ask him at work tomorrow what he thought of it, ever think about trying to market it?

I think Claude moved to the Philippines. To make sure the unit is operating, get a portable transister radio and set the AM dial to a low empty number. Hold it near the antenna and you should be able to hear a tone.

It takes quite a bit of practice to hold the rods stable but not stiff or overcorrecting. Keep the rod tips down about an inch and walk slowly and relax. You can make your own gold test target with some 24K gold leaf scrap pieces sold on ebay about $10. for a vial. You can also get silver leaf if you want.

It takes about three weeks of daily practice before you can use the rods without thinking about them. Just stick with it and it will come to you. Some instructions say for the first few times to practice with a visible target and try to get the rods to swing closed like a gate. But then you want to work with a hidden test target to find the line between the transmitter and the target. I would also suggest to watch the video a few times.

Hi bigstrapper.   Welcome to THunting.com   In case you haven't figured it out, most of the members are "highly sceptical" of long range locators....But don't let that discourage you or make you think there isn't a place for you here on THunting.com.   We actually do have a few members that use long range locators and we have some people who are avid dowsers (I'll skip the debate about a) whether those are the same thing and b) how reliable either is since I think that debate belongs in a different thread).   You might want to go to the main message board page and scroll down to "Long Range".   You'll find both "Black Box" (mostly long range detectors because people tend to have a really hard time explaining HOW those things work in a way that is reproducible) and "Dowsing".  There are some interesting discussions there......BUT if you do go there, please be forewarned--there are some real partisans on both sides of the debate and some of the threads have gotten a little heated in the past.

And Mike just proved my point about us being open to all since he posted his reply while I was typing mine.

Thank you to the both of you. I will try that with the radio to make sure that the system is still working. Once the weather warms up and the Pacific rain stops I plan on going out to test this set up. I do appreciate the info on fine tuning the walking with the rods and time. I'll try both with a known target and a not known target to see if I walk myself to the target of I can actually find it. Thanks again.
