Wow the pool thing is interesting... Long ago I was sailing in my Fiberglass boat and couldn't get off the Lake in time to avoid a huge lightning storm. With a 27' aluminum mast I was a sitting duck until I remembered my jumper cables in the cuddy cabin. Shoing the kids into the cabin I attached one end of the cable to the mast seat metal clamp and lowered the other end into the lake. I then rushed into the cabin and shut the door as all hell broke loose topside. Several very very bright flashes and deafening instantaneous booms occured. The world was very bright for an instant. Looking about everyone was staring out the hatch cover window but alright. The old "Leaky" was struck several times atop the mast but nothing else sparked. People ashore aid they counted 4 different bolts two of which occured one after the other. Thinking we were injured or dead 911 was called.

I waited about 10 minutes before coming out of the cuddy. An ambulance and police were on the shore. I looked at the jumber cable and saw no damage on the mast or the cable ends. We started the motor and motored in. Everyone was amazed at our survival and no damages. The ambulance crew wanted to check us out and we were all fine.  The parks rangers were impressed. I had read that you can ground your mast to the water someplace. It saved me and my family.

This high voltage stuff is fascinating, but as warned one slipup and you be gone for good. Funny Tesla livd as long as he did and never got zapped except when he wanted to be....

Thanks for the link.

NOTE:   This is a True BS Story!   Wise

Back a hundred years ago, I got my hands on a old Neon Sign Transformer.

110VAC in, 30,000 VAC out only 20 ma.   Thank God.

This is the same one I did the X-Ray thing with.

I was busy Frying this big Bug with it.

Don't ask me why, I just did it.   I reached over grabbed one of the leads by the end.

Next thing I know I was waking up on the other end of my bed room (12ft away) with my gun rack that was on the wall (5ft up off the floor) laying on top of me.

Wire in hand, I was jumping all over the place like a Mexican Jumping bean.

I'm sure I seen the Eye of God that day.

After a few Hours to settle down from the shakes, I felt better then yesterday.  Ha!   Shock Treatment?

That was the day I learned to respect the word Coulomb.

 Idiot

I used to work live circuits all the time and so far I've never gotten more than a tingle <crosses fingers>

I've heard so many stories like yours Homefire I guess it put the fear in me Smiley

That was some quick thinking Ed, I'll have to remember that. Smart way to save the day!

Glad you like it Xavier, that guy amazes me. I've never tried any of that but it crosses my mind occasionally Wink

Hi edjcox

Love the jumper lead to the mast The worst I had on a jaguar 22 with a swing keel (biggest load of rubbish) was a storm that came from no where but I had the time to get the mainsail down and there was no lightning a walk in the park compared to what you experienced.

homefire I guess that, that's what you call having a shocking experience the worst I had was being hit by an ignition coil ouch Now when ever we have a TV problem it goes to the TV repair shop I don't like HT but I'd still like to build a Tesla coil (a small one) Grin

I agree, that will kill people with that stuff are not possible that they can die with cancer or leukemia. That was interesting information that people need to know that they can also prevent it. I am lucky to know about that.
