Hello acke,

This is one of our favorite subjects---with lots of posts in the past.  I'm sure you will get lots of feedback from the other members and I'll probably come back and add some after I get home and can access my library.

First, I haven't read any of the books that deal specifically with metal detecting and/or treasure hunting in Europe.   There are several, though, that look like they could be very good.
Second many of the books we list here are going to have an American spin, but the principles will be universal.

So here is the start of the list:

 1)    ANY book by Karl von Mueller (but particularly The Treasure Hunter Manual --- either 6 or 7 or both)
 2)    The Urban Treasure Hunter by Michael Chaplan
 3)    The New Successful Coin Hunting by Charles Garrett

I can't add much but I did email a friend in England who may tell us of something written more for the   European market

In addition to the others already recommended, try this one. In the downloads area there is a book posted that might interest you.

I was getting ready to post the same question.  I have been looking for those books, any books, by Karl Von Mueller, and they are hard to find.  Not a single copy in any library here in Connecticut.

I was also told to look for books by Roy Lagal as well, but I have not been able to find any of his as well.

I am looking for books to help pass the winter, and perhaps aid in research.

Thanks,
CTKidd

Karls books have been out of print for some time and bring high dollar on ebay.

The Urban Treasure Hunter by Michael Chaplan & The New Successful Coin Hunting by Charles Garrett or both good books and still easy to find.
Roy Lagal, Hardrock Hendricks also wrote good books but hard to find.

The beauty of the Karl von Mueller books is that they are far less about how to swing your detector and how to interpret the results than they are about the mental game (how to identify and follow leads, what visual signs to look for in the field, how to conduct yourself in and out of the field, etc).  Those things don't change.

Here are a few low-priced copies of Karl von Mueller's books, which sometimes sell for over a hundred dollars each:

I have the Hardrock Hendricks book, and though it's a fun read, it doesn't have a lot of treasure hunting tips.  It was written by his wife, and it's mostly his biography.  My copy is signed by both of them!  (I interviewed him many years ago).

I agree with the  Garrett coin book recommendation, but his other books are mostly infomercials for Garrett metal detectors.

And if I may be so forward as to recommend my own book:
