(1/1)
Lary:
I found these bottles and got most of the dirt off. Some of it seems to be almost glued on. Are there ways to clean them better w\o compromising the object?

Homefire:
Soak them in White Vinegar. Works better if warmed up to about 100* but stinks most well.
Most of the deposits look like calcium salts of some type.
That should clean them up well.
If that fails.
Muriatic Acid 10% will clean off the rest. This can etch glass if left too long. Being based on Hydrochloric acid it loves
to eat biological stuff! Like You!!!!!!! Gloves, Bib, and Stay up wind! Sold as Pool and concrete cleaners.
Used Wrong this stuff can and will HURT YOU!!!

ButchDr:
Some bottles can be cleaned inside with coarse masons sand, put it in and shake the heck out of it, doesn't work all the time but often will and don't be afraid to run them through the dishwasher.
Another trick is good old coca cola, filler up and let it set for a few days and dump then wash.

I recently found a few bottles that were also "calcified" inside if that's the word, and have resisted trying to clean them until now. Anyone know of Thomas A. Edison Battery Oil? I found them at what was left of the old Monolith, CA railroad depot (just the cement foundation). Good condition except the stoppers (cork?) are gone. I expect they contained acid to top off the storage batteries for the telegraph. No pics right now. Ayone have an idea of their scarcity or value? TIA.
