My new Discovery 2200 developed a problem already. Only had it 10 days. The coil wire cover,(black insulator) pulled loose from the coil and the wires are shorting out causing constant signals every time it is moved. I saw another BH detector at an outing last week with the same problem. Is this a Bounty Hunter inherent problem, or do other makes have the same issue. I called Bounty Hunter and was told to send the coil back for replacement, which i did today. Will see what happens.

Oh Bumber...  Undecided

I never had a problem with any of tha
three BH coils that I have had.

I have always thought tha coils were
fairly reliable.

But, I have heard of problems with all
brands of coils.

Hope thay get cha goin soon,

Thanks. At least i was smart enough to purchase a spare 4" coil for it when i bought it so i am not completely out of business until the 8" coil comes back. Any idea what might have caused it. Another member here said i should put a cable tie around the wire at the bottom of the shaft to keep it from moving around. Sounds like a good idea.

Not at the bottom, near the bottom is where it should go. About 9 inches up the shaft. That does dual duty. It keeps your coil wire nearly perpendicular to the coil minimizing interference from the cable itself and keeping it from moving around too much. There's no help for it snagging though except to use a nylon mesh bag over the coil wire and shaft.

One thing that affects target depth detection is the coil wire laying horizontal to the coil for even a few inches. That metal in the field will affect your depth. If you do not believe me, try it. Snake out a few inches of wire and tape them to the coil disk flat against the disk of the coil. Detect a target in the air and then repeat it with the wire perpendicular to the coil. Surprise!

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Thanks for clearing up the tie placement for me. Will give it a try as soon as the 8" coil gets back.  Actually, i guess i can try it with the 4" coil. Thanks again.
