Hi All,
I posted two pics of some 1812 crossplate buckles they have been moved to another area that dosen't seem to get much viewing in fact they have been viewed once, I was hoping to get some feed back from the guys in the US regarding these and hopefully to answer the question "are they US"?
Why are these pics always relegated to this area?..........HH   Johnnn

Because of the Last 10 Posts feature, your post will move into that zone until interest in it drops. Every reply will bounce it back to the list. The number of views is directly related to interest, not to placement in the forums. I viewed them once so the numbers reflect that view. The number of viewers reading them is misleading since the robots and spiders from Google and the other search engines make up some of those numbers.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I'm not so darn knowledgeable about how this site operates either...some of my TOPICS were moved to other places but I guess it was because established places on the sire were already set up for certain subjects.

You plate is a U.S. Militia plate from the War of 1812. Many of these were also used by Southern troops during the Civil War. I have three dug at Fort St. Phillip in Louisiana and one from  an area near the Chalmette Battlefield where Jackson defeated the British. The plate is listed in Kerkis and most standard references on U.S. Military plates and accoutrements.

Well, you won't find a decorative type these were never decorated. I have seen some with a sodier's name scratched on them and a unit number but that's about it. These were strictly utilitarian items. You may find a similar British Plate from this period and they were engraved.
