Hello
Maybe a better place to post a new thread is under prospecting.  Because a 'Stationary sample station' is most often used with the detector in  'All metal mode' with little or  'No Tracking mode'  to sample rocks.  There is usually no 'Discrimination mode' as well.  However some will use some 'Discrimination mode' at times to help reduce the back ground iron level of a given sample rock.  Anyone out there sample this way?   Huh? Undecided

I just park my butt on a waste pile detector buzzing start grabbing samples wave a few time in front of the coil.  If they sing the slightest bit , I chuck them in the bucket to check better later.

Yes this is the most common way people detect mining wast piles.  Ones 'But' can get a little sore if doing this for say 6-8 hours a day.  Cry

Yes, if the place shows promise and color a return trip would be in order.  Anything that previously shown color like material could be collected and scrutinized with the GMT   and Falcon at a table under a tarp out of the sun in these parts.

The point of the metal detectors is to get a bucket or more of rock to crush out in the field for a simple 'Assay test'.  Cutting down the time going back and forth for one.  The tent or tarp is used depending on the weather.

Hello
Just showing colors is one thing and it is another thing to really seeing a lot of colors in the same general area without having to go back and forth with a number of trips.  Hard rock can be this way.

Hello
Just made a all aluminum with ball bearings panto-graph that should hold up to 30-35 Pounds.  Kiss   Have not made the stand or stool yet for the panto-graph. Should help save the back muscles  when doing 4 - 8 hours a day. Clapp

Hello
Again the idea is to have the rock moving away off the background.  May try different coils as well with the two metal detectors and see how much 'Cross talking' there is?

Had one for a few years got broke and sold it.  Handy for what they are made for.  Used mine to sample Ore Piles and crevices.  Have the parts and info on DIY Reverse Engineered.

Hear what you are saying.  Found one not working at a second hand store and pulled the circuit board out to cut off the small bad coil wires to solider a new coil wires ......a real pain for sure.  Then bought a second one off of 'Flea bay' so two people can probe around small rock.   Sure makes a lot of noise........LOL.
Have not had much time to use them yet but may have to on the out put end of a crusher to save sampling time to see if there is any small bits of gold in each rock sample.  A good shaking of the fines in a pan first may save a lot of time?  Round About
